ADDICTION?

There’s a LOT of talk about addiction these days; what it really is, what causes it, how to treat it. IS there any REAL treatment?

hit the hay

I’ve had several men in the house due to hunting season, ranging in age from 34-80, who all spend a lot of time on their phones.  One plays slots and checks weather and such, one plays card games and checks similar things, one plays whatever games he can and chats with his wife and kids.  They all look up anything someone questions to find the answer via google.

Well, sitting on the couch watching TV with them, I started downloading bubble pop games.  Usually I’d read or crochet at these times, but it’s been busy and I haven’t taken time to start either of these projects.  I pop bubbles until my finger’s sore; sometimes I think I’m wearing away the print on it!  When I come to my senses, I delete the game; but I’ve been downloading another each night.  I found myself playing while we were visiting grand kids as well.  After laying in bed this morning playing last evening’s game for over an hour, I realized there must be a “spirit of gaming” or something of the sort. I spoke against it in the name of Jesus and repented.

Guess what Scripture was in our group text this morning?

1 Timothy 1:6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

sheep-agriculture-animals-countryside-87081.jpegI’ve been joining the group instead of choosing a different path. Each of us has our own addiction and I believe the Spirit has been letting me experience this to humble me & help me understand so I can be more useful to others. flat out

I’m glad I’ve had a taste of what their addiction is like, but how will they stop if I don’t do it first?  The Spirit God has given us is more than enough to deliver ANYONE from addiction if they call on Him and believe He’ll do it.  I believe a sound mind includes being able to choose to not do addictive behaviors. His arm is NOT to short to save, His hand not too small to hold us!

Actually, God made us to be addicted, but He meant us to be addicted to Him!  Remember the verses that tell us to meditate on the Word?  To hide it in our heart? To eat it?

1Timothy 1:13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

Getting back to Psalm 91, verses 7-9:

“A thousand will fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.  Only with your eyes will you behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the LORD, Who is my refuge, the Most High, your habitation

If we believe and trust God to be there, if we choose to make Him our refuge and habitation, we need not fear.  Peggy Ruth Joyce shares how they stayed in their friend’s beach house in Alabama a year after hurricane Ivan hit.  Buildings around them were gutted; there were still piles of destruction all around, but their house had no damage at all.  These friends also owned a beach front condo 3 blocks away.  The eye of the hurricane had gone directly over the building, but the windows were not blown out; not a picture on the wall was disturbed in the midst of devastation.  The friends had called Peggy when the hurricane was coming, declaring their total trust in the Lord’s Psalm 91 covenant of protection, asking her family to join in faith with them.

Sheltering henShe pointed out Jesus suffered persecution, but never calamity, disaster or mishap; accidents never approached Him.  We have the same covenant of protection that He had!  Choose to hide yourself in the LORD and you will dwell in safety; also, you will be able to keep from hating the enemy because you have God’s perspective.

Psalm 148 1 (2)

  1. Dear Grannie Heidi, some of what you shared in your Message really touched my Heart and lifted my Spirit but I remember in another Post you shared that you believed God does not deliberately Hurt us and this is very True and it is the same for Jesus and The Holy Spirit , They are One ( 1John 5:7K.J.V) meaning in Spirit although Their Roles in The Godhead or Trinity as we call Them today are different, The Father always being in Authority.

So in reference to The Holy Spirit letting you experience Addiction Grannie Heidi seeking to humble you, No He didn’t, He never wants us to do what is wrong just as God doesn’t and He never Temps us to do evil either as the Scriptures confirm (James 1:12-14) but He will work everything together for good for us in Life because we Love, Trust and Obey Him but it is still our choice if we do,Our Abba Father does not want Puppets.

But Satan wants our full submission and he temps us to do evil and than if we do we will reap what we sow and yes this is God’s Discipline until we come to our senses and Repent like the Prodigal Son did and than Wow what a Welcome Home and for us that means under God’s Wings of Love and Protection (Psalm9:1-4) ( Psalm 97:9-11) and than Satan flees, Good and Evil can’t be in Unity.

Accidents and Chance Happens to everyone, we see this in what Paul went through as a Christian and the other Disciples and we too will experience Trouble just as Jesus told us we would, We live in a fallen World and Satan has the right to test us to do evil as he did with Jesus, Job, Abraham, Peter etc.

Jess was also known as a Man of Sorrows and Acquainted with grief (Isaiah 53:2-4) and yes He did suffer greatly and He did so for us. Our Sin separated Him from His Heavenly Father as it does when we Sin and God let Jesus suffer because of His great Love for us but I’m sure it grieved Him greatly to see Jesus His much Loved Son suffer and die but He also tells us, that we never need to fear He is with us all the way. (see below) God knows those who are His and not One of us will be Lost Eternally..

Isaiah 43:1-3 – Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.”

Jeremiah 29 :11-12 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of Peace and not of evil, to give you a Future and a Hope.

Lamentations 3: 33 For God doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the Children of Men.

My link below will show what you shared about Addictions Grannie Heidi is True, it’s how God rescued me from my Addiction and yes He never gives up on us when we are His. .

    1. Thanks so much Grandma Annie! I know I use the games to fill up time that I should be seeking the Lord or filling my “hole” with Scripture and praise. I know there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, but the Spirit will touch places in our heart and mind that need attention and possible correction. I know there’s so much MORE to be experienced and added to what I have that I don’t want to miss it while just coasting along. As always, these musings are not usually in depth but leave room for people to seek further and/or share from their experiences. I really appreciate you dear Sister Annie!
