Good day my dear readers! Time caught me and I’m publishing a bit later than usual, so let’s get back to our 10:10’s beginning in Deuteronomy chapter 10. This is where Moses went back up on the mountain and hewed the second pair of tablets for God to write the 10 Commandments on.
Deuteronomy 10:10 “As at the first time, I stayed in the mountain forty days and forty nights; the Lord also heard me at that time, and the Lord chose not to destroy you.
The LORD had mercy on His people again, even though they had grievously sinned against His holiness.
Next we have Joshua 10:10. This is the chapter where God made the sun stand still at Joshua’s request and all of the kings of the Amorites and their kingdoms were wiped out by Joshua and his mighty men, accompanied by hail stones from God’s hand that finished the work.
Joshua 10:10 So the Lord routed them before Israel, killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, chased them along the road that goes to Beth Horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah.
Now in the 10th chapter of the book of Judges, led by Judge Jair the Gileadite, the Israelites sinned greatly by following the gods of Syria, Sidon, Moab, Ammon, and the Philistines. They forsook God and did not fear Him. As His anger raged, they came to their senses:
Judges 10:10 And the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against You, because we have both forsaken our God and served the Baals!”
The Lord pointed to the times He had rescued them by His mighty hand, delivering them from their enemies (such as Egypt) and He turned His back on them. Then the children of Israel confessed their sin, put away their idols and turned back to serving the Lord and He relented and turned back to them.
Because of His great mercies we are not consumed, but “cheap grace” is not His style. The Spirit gives us the power to turn from our sins and Jesus Christ washes them clean- whiter than snow- then sends them as far away as east is from west. I am so glad God knows our frame and realizes our frail, rebellious humanity. All you need to do is read a bit of Psalms or Proverbs to see how God our heavenly Father deals with us, our sin and our enemies (remember, we wrestle not against flesh and blood…).
On my own, I have no hope, no strength, no clever ideas to implement that will truly change me from the inside out. Remember, He wants a heart change and not just ‘pretty words’. With God, ALL things are possible! All things are new in Christ Jesus; there is no “past” to go back to if you’ve truly surrendered all things to Him.
My dear readers, I commend you to the Mighty hand of God, not to be consumed, but to be renewed in His great love and refining fire. Join me as I worship Him in spirit and truth and trust Christ to complete the good work in me that He’s begun. I’m with you all in prayer until we meet again!
