Bible Verses 10:10 part III

Welcome to the third installment of the Bible 10:10’s I’ve found. Let’s look at 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, and 2 Kings and see what God has to say.

happy nerdI Samuel chapter 10 is where Samuel anointed Saul as King. Samuel revealed to Saul what God said would occur as he left Samuel, and everything the Prophet prophesied happened to prove to Saul that God was with him, including:

I Samuel 10:10 When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

In II Samuel, David is now king, Saul and his sons have died, and King David welcomed Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth to his table for the rest of his life. in 10:1, the king of the children of Ammon died and his son Hanun came to power. Remembering Hanun’s father, King Nahash showing loving kindness to David, David sent his servants to comfort the new king for the loss of his father.  Well, Hanun’s advisers did not understand David’s motives and told him to treat the servants unkindly. He shaved off half of their beards and cut their garments in the middle, exposing their buttocks & sent them away. This set off a skirmish:

II Samuel 10:10 And the rest of the people he [Joab] put under the command of Abishai his brother, that he might set them in battle array against the people of Ammon.

So, Israel was successful against the Syrians and the Ammonites, because God was with them.
I Kings chapter 10 tells of the Queen of Sheba visiting King Solomon. Verse 1 says she heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, and came to test him with perplexing questions. After questioning him thoroughly, this is what she did:

I Kings 10:10 Then she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great quantity, and precious stones. There never again came such abundance of spices as the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

In II Kings chapter 10, Ahab’s 70 sons that were being raised in Samaria were beheaded, their heads sent to King Ahab, then they were set before the people in two baskets the next morning. Verse 10 says:

II Kings 10:10 Know now that nothing shall fall to the earth of the word of the Lord which the Lord spoke concerning the house of Ahab; for the Lord has done what He spoke by His servant Elijah.”

 The Spirit of the Lord was rare in the Old Testament, but these verses display some of the significant displays of God’s work. First we have Samuel anointing Saul as King of Israel, the Spirit of God came upon him to evidence the anointing. The sad part is, Saul turned away from obeying God and God removed His Spirit from him. King David did a good, compassionate thing that King Hanun’s bad advisers misinterpreted. When the Assyrians formed a battle line against Israel, God’s Spirit gave David’s army victory. King Solomon wisely asked for wisdom to rule Israel and was mightily blessed by God so that the Queen of Sheba lavished many riches on him. This is part of what turned Solomon’s heart away from God’s glorious Spirit upon him. King Ahab and his wife Jezebel are well known for their wickedness, but God’s judgement did not fail concerning what He promised would happen to Ahab’s family to repay them. These sections of Scripture really illustrate the following verse:

Deuteronomy 32:35

Vengeance is Mine, and recompense;
Their foot shall slip in due time;
For the day of their calamity is at hand,
And the things to come hasten upon them.’

DoveThe Old Testament accounts show us how He worked in the lives of individuals as well as whole nations. The Holy Spirit of God came upon a few people in the Old Testament, but now since Jesus ascended to the Father’s right hand, the Holy Spirit has been sent down to all who would believe on Jesus Christ for salvation. These days we count on the Father’s mercy, love and grace. Let us not forget the power within us that is jealous for our hearts and minds. Let us learn from our forefathers in the faith and wisely turn to the Lord God Almighty for our strength and understanding. Remember:

Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

angelicSo live wisely and follow hard after the Spirit’s leading. I pray you all find times of refreshing in the midst of your hectic lives, remembering to seek Him first, and all other things will be taken care of. Have a blessed week!
