Fast to Stand Firm

5–7 minutes

To read

We completed our congregation’s 21-day fast on Thursday. The theme this year was:  Fast to STAND FIRM. As we began fasting, Pastor added together.  The Lord has not revealed a lot of what 2026 will hold yet, but Pastor sees the need for us to not waver and stand firm together, in congregational unity.

POSSESS THE PROMISE

Our Capital Campaign, Possess The Promise, began in December.  We are experiencing a great outpouring of grace in finances, favor with the town board, have been blessed with a new architect, and contractors that understand what the Lord wants to do to prepare our building for the increase He’s soon bringing in.

FORGIVE!

Pastor challenged us to read chapters 5-7 of the Gospel of Matthew at least three times through this week. Two things from this passage that he’s stressing: our congregation needs to let forgiveness flow, and we need to build on the Solid Rock/. I read these chapters several times this week, in different translations. I realize I need to trust God at His word and see things through the lens of His eyes of love.

This fasting time has been good for me, I am going deeper into relationships with the Lord and people. Holy Spirit is bringing to mind things/people that I need to forgive as well as songs in the night/throughout the day.

DIVINE SHAKING

Another thing that is happening: Father God is shaking everything that can be shaken. Here, we’ve been kept housebound by snow, high winds, and now, frigid temperatures. I’ve had 6 scheduled meetings canceled in the past 9 days. Yesterday, my pastor friend in Uganda told me that their family has not had food for 3 days due to a drought. It’s a real time of trusting in the LORD and seeking His Will.

Also, He has freed me of my addiction to Mahjong solitaire on my phone. I truly could not break from this, no matter what I tried. It’s been several years, and I liken myself to the “dog going back to his vomit” in Scripture. During the fast, Holy Spirit led me to other things, other thoughts when I was tempted to just “play for a few”, and I chose to yield to Him.

ENTRANCE

I have begun reading Kevin Zadai’s new book, Entrance: Your Supernatural Time Of Initiation. He begins with Hebrews 12:18-29, contrasting the terror of Mount Sinai with the Mount Zion experience. Let’s look at this passage.

NEW COVENANT

*Hebrews 12:22 But you have not come to that kind of place [terribly fearful Mt. Sinai]. The new place you have come to is Mount Zion. You have come to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands of angels gathered together with joy. 23 You have come to the meeting of God’s firstborn children. Their names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all people. And you have come to the spirits of good people who have been made perfect. 24 You have come to Jesus, the One who brought the new agreement from God to his people. You have come to the sprinkled blood that has a better message than the blood of Abel.

So, we have a new, eternal covenant in the Blood of Jesus Christ. I am free from the darkness of sin. The enemy is still active, but I do not need to listen to his lies. I am no longer obligated to follow his leading. Let’s read on to see the shaking part we’re in.

Listen!

*25 So be careful and do not refuse to listen when God speaks. They refused to listen to him when he warned them on earth. And they did not escape. Now God is warning us from heaven. So it will be worse for us if we refuse to listen to him. 26 When he spoke before, his voice shook the earth. But now he has promised, “Once again I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 The words “once again” clearly show us that everything that was made will be destroyed. These are the things that can be shaken. And only the things that cannot be shaken will remain.

FAITH LIFE

Part of this Scripture will not be fulfilled until the return of Christ, but even now, the Holy Spirit is leading us to let things be shaken in our world so we can get back to the basics of faithful living; demanding God’s Will in Heaven be done here on earth. As I have been freed from electronic Mahjong, I will also let Him burn away other things that beset me. The next verses are a warning … and encouragement!

*28 So let us be thankful because we have a kingdom that cannot be shaken. We should worship God in a way that pleases him. So let us worship him with respect and fear [holy awe], 29 because our God is like a fire [His love] that burns things up .

* Scriptures taken from The International Children’s Bible

I will choose as I daily walk in His light, to be thankful to Father, Son, Spirit, angels, heavenly watchers… I have been praying in tongues a LOT during this fast. I believe that’s part of worshiping in a way that pleases Him, with respect and holy awe. As I pray in other tongues, I let God-thoughts come to mind and pray those also.

DEVOTIONS

Last year, I was using The Daily Bible for my devotions, going through the Bible chronologically in one year. I’m glad I did it, but because of this rigorous routine, it was hard to concentrate on a topic for my blog pages. Each day I would see something to share from my reading, but before I could write about that, the next reading would show me something else!

Overcoming Strongholds

This year as I fasted, I read through 21 Days of Prayer to Overcome Strongholds, by Jim Maxim. This gave me some daily prayers and keys to break bondages over my life and those of my loved ones. One key is donning my heavenly armor daily. Another is giving thanks and worshiping instead of fear.

Now I am using The One Year Pray for the Persecuted Bible from Voice Of The Martyrs. They give several plans for using this Bible, so I have chosen the one that uses daily Psalms & Proverbs, which will take me through these books 3x this year.
