A Thousand Tongues?

O, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing…

Revelation 5:11,12  Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice; “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!”

Written by Charles Wesley in 1739, this is another of my favorite hymns.  What a blessing we can sing the hymns the Spirit inspired so long ago.  Truly, none of us can sing enough praise and thanksgiving to our Lord and Savior; at least not THIS side of Heaven!

1.O for a thousand tongues to sing

My great Redeemer’s praise,

The glories of my God and King,

The triumphs of His grace!

2. Jesus the name that charms our fears,

That bids our sorrows cease;

‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears,

‘Tis life, and health, and peace.

3. He breaks the power of canceled sin,

He sets the prisoner free;

His blood can make the foulest clean;

His blood availed for me.

4. Hear Him, ye deaf; His praise, ye dumb,

Your loosened tongues employ;

Ye blind, behold your Savior come,

And leap, ye lame for joy.

5. My gracious Master and my God,

Assist me to proclaim,

To spread through all the earth abroad

The honors of Thy name.

Lesson 8 in my Psalm 91 study:

Psalm 91:6b You will not be afraid of the destruction that lays waste at noon.

The fourth category of evil is destruction, “the evils over which man has no control”, commonly called ‘Acts of God’.  “these natural disaster are not coming from God.” says Peggy Ruth Joyce.  Note Mark 4:39 where Jesus rebukes the storm…Jesus would never have rebuked something sent from Father God!

It was God’s plan to provide protection to us before we were ever born.  Every extreme evil known to man will fall into one of the four categories named in verses 5 -6.  God has offered us deliverance in Christ Jesus.  Through Him, we can dwell in the secret place, activating God’s protection by following the instructions in the first two verses.  In light of the mighty storms that have come lately, I know we will hear many testimonies of God’s saving grace if we listen closely!  Let me know if you’ve heard any as well as if YOU yourself have anything to share about the Father’s saving power.
