Luke 3:22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased”.
When Jesus came up out of the waters of baptism, it says the Spirit descended upon him ‘like a dove’. The Holy Spirit was NOT a dove; but that’s the closest comparison those watching the event could make with their human eyes.
Note: the Son was immersed, the Spirit came upon Him, the Father spoke to the Son.

The Bible doesn’t use the word “Holy Trinity”(It’s a man-made term for this doctrine) but clearly shows examples such as this of how the three parts of God are separate, but all three are one God. I love the analogy of an egg to demonstrate the Trinity: shell, white, yolk are three distinct parts with three distinct functions, but they compose a unit that the baby chick will develop in and emerge from. I’d take this further by saying Jesus walking on earth as fully man, fully God and filled with the Holy Spirit after His baptism was like the egg emerging as a chick.
I was watching Sid Roth LIVE: Holy Fire & Glory (YouTube/ISN). This is my second time watching this episode and I accepted another dose of Holy Fire and Glory from Sid’s guests: Kevin Zadai, Diane Nutt and Tracey Cooke, joined by Rich Vera at the end. It was good to watch after spending a couple weeks listening/watching a lot of Kevin’s videos. I’ve begun reading his books Agenda of Angels and Supernatural Finances on my Kindle.
Our church hosted the You Can Hear From God seminar with Dr. Mark Virkler October 4-6th. It was an amazing time of learning to:
-
quiet myself
-
fix my eyes on Jesus
-
tune to spontaneity
-
write
These 4 keys come from 4 Keys to Hearing God’s Voice a book written by Mark & Patti Virkler. Mark explains how he’s a left brain type A person, his wife’s a right brain type B person, so they collaborate on all their books. You can find many free resources and teachings from their ministry at http://www.cwgministries.org
Dr. Mark grew up in Lewis County, NY attending the “Virkler Church” (because so much of the large Virkler clan were in the congregation) where there were very strict rules and no musical instruments allowed. He would have been content staying there and working on a dairy farm, but the Lord had other plans! He spent 10 years trying to find out how to hear God’s voice. No one could explain to him how to hear, and nothing worked until he spent a year seeking the Lord and learning to quiet himself and picture Jesus at his right hand:
Acts 2:25 For David says concerning Him:
‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face,
For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.
Then let flowing thoughts/rivers of living water flow through his mind/heart:
The Promise of the Holy Spirit
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
