We are emerging from generations of bondage…

The Lord is doing a new thing!

Last evening I watched The Amish And The Reformation with host Joseph Graber. He traced the roots of Christianity and the Reformation and showed where the Amish began and where they are at now. Jacob Amman, the founder, broke off with the traditional Church when he began reading the Bible for himself, finding out that salvation was by faith alone, and baptism was for believers; not infants. This group began with a solid foundation on the Word of God, but fell into traditions of men over the generations. In the early 1990s, Joseph Graber’s family began reading the Bible for themselves and sharing with others what they were discovering, which put them at odds with Amish traditions and caused them to be excommunicated.

If you research history, a person experiences revelation from God, builds a religion around it, stops pressing in for new revelation, then becomes legalistic. How then shall we live in this new era of God without falling into making His revelation into legalism?

We are on the third chapter of Romans in our study at church. The Jewish people have an advantage with God because He committed to them His oracles. If we did not have the law from them, we would not know that we are sinners. Their unbelief does not nullify God’s faithfulness, but brings us to the knowledge of sin as well as them. It is clear that the law cannot justify us; only faith in Christ can. He has made a way for the Jew to be justified by faith, the gentiles through faith.This imputes righteousness to all and upon all. As the Messianics remind us, “The Root supports you” [the wild branches grafted in]. So, if God had not chosen the Jewish people as His nation and given them the law that shows us none is righteous, we would not know that we cannot achieve righteousness by our own efforts. Then we would not realize we need what Christ Jesus did for us to be reconciled to God and man. Which brings me back to legalism and traditions of men. It’s human nature to want to structure rules around our lives in order to know where the boundaries are. It seems easier to follow rules than to realize our own rule-following will not save us. Hallelujah! What a Savior is our Lord Jesus Christ!

Returning to the first Scriptures I posted, I ask you a question: as we walk through all that is ahead, can you remember to take time to wait on the Lord? In His strength, we shall prevail against the evil one and enter into the glory of God that is being poured out on earth. Ge ready for signs, wonders and miracles as we step into the greater glory that is falling on us! I leave you with a much-quoted Scripture that supports those before this. I pray you experience new facets of Shalom and greater measures of glory in the days ahead.

Isaiah 40:30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
³¹ But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
