Repeated references to this scripture recently gave me pause. Let’s look at it.
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Usually, this verse is used to call sinners to salvation, but is that what Jesus was saying? Let’s look at the verses around this one.
Revelation 3:15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth…
The worst thing we can be as a Christian is Luke warm. Vomit is one of the strongest words Jesus uses!
17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
We need to ask the Spirit to search our inmost being, the depth of our soul. We need the refined gold and white garments, the salve to anoint our eyes. Search me, oh God, and know my heart… I need a true understanding of who I really am in Christ.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
Be thankful and desire the searching and chastening of the Spirit of the Lord. Repent, turn back to your loving Father. Realize the price Jesus paid to blot out our sins and heal us.
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
Let us come back, invite our Savior to come back to the center of our life. Jesus has already overcome this life. He’s offering us the same reward He obtained, return to the place at the Father’s right hand.
Lay it all down, lay it all down… lay it all down! Work with the Spirit, Who searches all things, and open each door within your soul and let Him cleanse you.
I just got Penn Clark’s newly published books, Finding Finney and Finding Father Nash. This Second Great Awakening they were part of, the spirit of prayer was heavy. It is said that every grove and field had groups of people praying. You could stand in the area and hear several prayers being lifted all around.
Find a couple of people who want to join in prayer, or maybe there’s a prayer meeting in your area that you can join. Open yourself to the lover of your soul and let go of the things that hold you. Let’s humble ourselves and pray in what God is releasing these days. You have a part in this new era of revival. Humble yourself and He will lift you up into the plans He has for you!

Jesus loves to meet with us every day. He wants to talk as well as listen. I think He stands at the door and says, “Can I come in and be with you today?”. I hope I always hear His knock. A doorbell would be better some days!
