God, What Are You Doing???

I visited Smithville Baptist church the Sunday they hosted Jesus in the Passover. Laura Barron, from Jews For Jesus, presented excellent visuals as she explained what goes on in the Jewish household for Passover and how it relates to what we have in Jesus.

This connection with Laura connected me with Karol Joseph, who is working with Laura on sharing Yeshua with Haredi women. [Strict version of Judaism].

Well, Karol offered a study she wrote: Counting The Omer Journey. This is the 50-day time between Passover and Pentecost, following the Israelites’ journey from Egypt toward the Promised Land. I get each week’s study in my email and print it off.

Karol takes me into the story, encouraging me to identify with the Israelites and how it relates to my own life story.

Exodus 13:17 When Pharoah let the people go, God did not lead them [the Israelites]by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. For God said,”Lest the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt. “

Three weeks into the journey, God has told Moses to have the people double back to encamp near the Red Sea. God said He was going to bring glory, but no one knows how yet.

In Exodus 14, the people went out boldly, buoyed by the miracles God had done to release them.  Pharoah hardened his heart and gathered all his choicest military might to go and drag them back into slavery.

Exodus 149 The Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea beside Pi Hahiroth, before Baal Zephon.

When the Israelites see this great army, they turn on God and on Moses. Forgetting that God is stronger than the might of Pharaoh, they are sure they will die on the shore.

We all know the great miracle God did. I encourage you to read chapter 14 of Exodus to get into this miracle our Lord orchestrated to show His great glory.

What about us in this era? The enemy is rattling its sabers and the world seems to have gone crazy! Can we trust our monetary system? Our government? Our vote and advocacy make some difference,  but ultimately,  if God does not do a miracle, all is lost.

Will we be like our ancestors in the wilderness and despair? Will we look to the arm of flesh and worldly comfort? Will we choose to remember the  LORD and in Him our confidence place?

We see from their example that we can not lean on ‘Egypt’ and go back to the leeks, onions, and flesh pots. Manna, the food of angels in heaven, is a perfect food. It’s just not as appealing to the senses as what they had in Egypt.

The slave mentality had its advantages because they were used to being told what to do and being provided for. But, complaining and unbelief kept them in the wilderness.  How much have we been enslaved by our culture? Our schools, our media? Our outlook on life is a major thing. Our abundance and comfort lull us and can make us forget where these blessings come from.

This study I’m doing makes me wonder how God is going to save us by His mighty right arm this time. How much longer will the enemy rage? How much of it is our part? How much hangs  on our faith, our prayers, our actions to walk, in the light and love, of Christ?

Let us recount the great miracles we have read about. Also, ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind the great things He’s done in your own life. It is our obligation to share our testimony and encourage others in faith.

Remember, mighty angels are waiting for us to tell them what to do! Use your power and authority in Jesus!

It’s May!

Celebrate! It’s May, and God is on the move! I want to honor my youngest grandchild, Ashlynn Hope. Today is her 8th birthday 🎂. Friday the 10th is my youngest son Alex’s birthday. On May 14th, I will be 61. Then, on May 18th, grandson Jackson will be 12. Not to mention, my niece Kristen’s birthday is on the 17th, and don’t forget Mother’s Day on the 12th! What a busy month of blessings from Father God!

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. The nation of Israel’s anniversary is May 14th. Let all those who love Israel rejoice and be glad, for the LORD’S promises are truly Yes and truly Amen!

Joel 2:21 Be glad then, you children of Zion,
And rejoice in the Lord your God;
For He has given you the former rain faithfully,
And He will cause the rain to come down for you—
The former rain,
And the latter rain in the first month.

We have been experiencing a lot of rain these past few months. A few days ago, the above scripture came to mind. In the natural, I sense that the Lord is sending both the early and the latter rains at the same time! In the Spirit, I believe this corresponds with the reapers overtaking the sowers of the Gospel.

John 4:35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! 36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

Souls are so ripe for the harvest that many are eagerly accepting salvation with very little prompting. Check out testimonies from Iran Alive http://www.IranAlive.org and Voice of the Martyrs http://www.vom.org Ministries for some examples. Also, Crossroads Prison Ministry is looking for Spanish-speaking mentors because they have an increasing backlog of Spanish student lessons waiting for them. Most of these students have questions about their identity and salvation. They cannot wait! http://www.cmcarcelario.org

Sorry, I realize I have a book review page, but I’m going to share some reviews on this post. I recently connected with author Noel Williamson. His first book I read is, Love is Like a Bag of Popcorn. In this book, Noel shares from personal experience from his first attempts to ask a girl out, leading you through popcorn, sports, movie, TV shows, and pertinent Scripture references, all the way into his newlywed days. I recommend this book for everyone from teens to adults who are looking for tips on godly relationships, whether you are married already or not.

Next, I read Job Loss AppleSauce Trusting God after Job Layoffs and Finding Comfort in Applesauce. You’ll need to read to the end of the book to find why he capitalized the S in AppleSauce! The way Noel handled things will help others navigate the job market and other life changes. As with the popcorn references in the first book, Noel was clever with his apple references continuing in every chapter! I read each book in an afternoon [of course it was raining] they are short, interesting books. In the same Amazon order, I acquired Willamson’s third book, A Salad Bowl of Wisdom Life Advice from a Diverse Group of Adults. He begins with interviews from a couple people in their 90s, then a friend in her 60s and another in his mid-50s. His original plan was to interview people in their 80s, 90s, and above, but realized his younger-older friends have a lot of wisdom also! I have not had time to get far in this book yet [we were blessed with a dry day], but his easy, personable style is refreshing. I recommend you check out Noel Williamson on Amazon!

By the way, if you have read my book or listened to my audiobook, Musings Along Life’s Journey, please leave a review on Amazon, Facebook, Goodreads, or anywhere you post reviews. I thank you in advance!

If I wish you Jesus and Shalom, I wish you everything! May you be blessed and be a blessing, finding joy in all you give and receive from the loving hand of Father God. Until next time, Shalom!

Bible Chapter 8:1-8 book of Romans

Welcome to the next installment in this Bible study.  Let’s see what the Spirit highlights in the eighth chapter of Romans.

A group artwork from the Shetler family’s ministry in Africa.

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,

Make note: if you are in Christ, walking in the Spirit, there is no more condemnation, no more punishment As Jesus said in John 3:17, He did not come to condemn us but to reconcile us to Father God. We now have access to the law of the Spirit, which is life in Christ Jesus. This frees us from walking in the law of sin and death, the law we were born into through the sins of the fathers, stretching back to Adam. This is why Jesus condemned sin in the flesh by coming in human flesh.

4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Do you walk in the righteous law of love? Love for your God and loving your neighbor as yourself? We can muscle our way into acting out this love by our own human effort, but is that truly denying your fleshly lusts and desires?

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

If we only think about what to eat, what to wear, and having the best “necessities” in life, where is our spiritual life? We can do good deeds, but if it’s to rack up points, trying to get on God’s good side, how are we any different than the heathen unbelievers around us? The carnality of our human side is set against God and the love of God in Christ.

6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

I find when I hear all the facts, if I fail to look towards the truth in the Bible, I fall short. With our human understanding, we hate those who fight against us. In God’s Sprit, we can love even our enemies! But is this wise? What does God say?

1 Corinthians 2: 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

So we must be careful, walking circumspectly in this evil time we live in. It is clear that we are on the path to death and destruction when we look to the world and our own strength and understanding.

Proverbs 14:12 & 16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

Remember to ask for your daily manna from the LORD. This includes all the things required for what each day demands. We have a heavenly Father who knows what we need, but still delights in his children, when we ask him daily to provide. This includes daily food, shelter, and clothing. Also, grace, mercy, and love. Don’t forget peace in Christ Jesus, more than we could ask for! Remember, you need more to sustain you than physical needs. Without daily food from the Bible and the Spirit of God, we starve our spirits.

So live each day in the Spirit, denying your fleshly desires. Walk in love and understanding as you grow in the things of God found in his Word. If you fail, as we all do, quickly repent and apply the precious blood of Jesus. Continue renewing your mind and remember the old chorus:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace.

Bible Chapter 8:1-8 passages in the book of Acts

Welcome to the next section of Bible 8:1-8 passages. Let’s dive into Acts chapter 8.

Saul Persecutes the Church
Acts 8:1 Now Saul was consenting to his [Stephen’s] death.
At that time, a great persecution arose against the church, which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial and made great lamentation over him. 3 As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.

After the 120 who gathered in the upper room were immersed/baptized in the fiery Holy Spirit, hundreds upon hundreds of people were miraculously coming into the kingdom. All the things that Jesus told them would happen when He rose up to heaven were happening! This was a marvelous time to be part of what God was doing and the spirit of unity was strong within the body of Christ. Inevitably, we hear of persecution beginning with the arrest of James and John when they offered healing to the lame man at the temple gate. Next, Stephen was arrested and stoned to death, even though he was ministering to so many people and teaching with authority. God used this persecution to His advantage.

Christ Is Preached in Samaria
4 Therefore, those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word. 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. 6 And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. 8 And there was great joy in that city.

See how God caused the believers to scatter? He wanted the good news of Messiah to spread to all the world, not stagnate in Jerusalem. He is still scattering and shifting His people around to where we are needed. It is a privilege to be part of this new era in the LORD, heaven coming down to earth; the veil between the two thinning as we speak!

The following is what Jesus taught not long before Acts 8 occurred:

Matthew 5:44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

Saul didn’t know it yet, but the Lord was using him in spite of himself. The one who was holding the coats of those stoning Stephen became the one the Lord used to reach multitudes of people in the name of Jesus the Messiah. Paul’s letters in the New Testament are still drawing, encouraging, teaching and training people today.

God is able to use everything for His glorious plans, even our enemies. Let us pray for those who treat us badly. Let us pray for and speak blessing over those our hearts want to condemn. As I said in my book, Musings Along Life’s Journey, If I don’t pray for them, they will be damned. The eternity of hell is so horrid, I don’t want even my worst enemy to go there! I will be speaking about my book at Smithville Baptist Church in Adams, NY in April if you are able to attend. Here is the “Save the Date” card.

Bible Chapter 8:1-8 in the Gospels #4 John

Welcome to the end of the Gospels chapter 8:1-8. Let us enter the book of John, the Beloved.

Photo by eberhard grossgasteiger on Pexels.com

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.

Jesus frequently went into the temple and taught the people who gathered there. His ministry was not done in secret, and neither should ours!

3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.”

Here come the religious leaders, dragging a trembling woman into the midst of Jesus’s teaching. Note how they plan to catch Jesus with the law of Moses.

And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”

Photo by NEOSiAM 2024+ on Pexels.com

Was the woman dragged from the bed, clutching a sheet? Did they allow her to grab her robe? Her hair was probably loose, uncustomary for that culture. Full of shame, fear, consternation, maybe? I’m sure she already knew the law and consequences. I’m sure she did not know the compassion Jesus had for her, a sinner.

6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.

Jesus spoke without a word. He knew their hearts as well as He knew the Laws of Moses. We all wonder exactly what Jesus was writing with His finger in the dirt.

7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

We all know what happens next. The leaders turned around and left, in shame. It began with the elders, ending with the youngest. I assumed because the eldest had more time to rack up sins.

Jesus asked the woman where her accusers were. They all left! He told her that he did not condemn her [see John 3:17] but warned her to go and sin no more.

One question that arises: Where was the other half of the adulterous couple? Was he one of the leaders?

This passage of Scripture sets many people free, especially women in Muslim communities. Jesus was demonstrating the value God puts on women.  Many cultures and religions put no value on women. Note: one false version of the Bible ends this story with Jesus killing this woman because he was the one without sin, giving him the onus to stone her to death.

This brings me to my reading from yesterday’s devotions, Matthew chapter 7. I think judgement is the crux of John chapter 8. as well as Matthew 7.

Do Not Judge
Matthew  7:1“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

All of us have been guilty of transgressing the law at some point in our lives. When we humble ourselves, we can see clearly. Religious piety is normal for our human bent. We experience something of God and the Spirit, then we want to hold onto it. We make it a dogma to follow.

Humanity loves having boundaries. The freedom we get from Christ and the love of God can make us uneasy. It’s much easier to have rules to follow and parameters to hold us in although, we also want to push those boundaries. Pay attention to what brings judgmental thoughts to your mind; it is probably your plank.

Photo by Moaz Tobok on Pexels.com

Coming back to Matthew 7, we like to judge those who are different, who are doing something/being something we don’t think is right. We must be careful to have a true estimation of who we are in light of Christ and God’s love.

All of us are guilty, bound for judgement by a righteous God. We have forgiveness in Jesus. Do not take it lightly! Extend it to others as you speak the truth in love. You want mercy and forgiveness, so does the one you are condemning by your thoughts/words/ actions. I leave you with these thoughts. The photo is me, getting ready to identify with Christ’s death and resurrection in baptism. I pray you get time to seek the LORD and find His Shalom. Until next time, be a blessing as you are blessed by God!

Giving and Receiving

Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

I was just listening to an Eljah Clips episode on YouTube. Mike Thompson and his wife were telling Steve Schultz about the supernatural finances God is providing. As we sow into ministries that are spreading the gospel, He provides more funds for us to sow.

Kim Robinson shares part of her heaven experiences in her book, Heaven Is Real and It’s Fun! Jesus showed her a room in heaven that has piles of money. There is money in heaven waiting for you to reach up and take it, bringing it down to earth. This is what happened for me in February of 2022. I was listening to someone who said to ask God how much and then reach up and pull it down. $3,000.00 came to mind, and in faith, not knowing what it was for or how it would come, I reached up and pulled.

Well, I got more work from housekeeping at the neighbor’s motel due to it being short staffed. I also was paid $14.00/hour when the year before I had gotten $11-12.00. John started paying for most of my gas since we were using my vehicle more often to run errands. God also supplied a second house cleaning job, and my pastors hooked me up with a local man needing help editing and publishing his memoir.

About May, I hooked up with Sabrina Adams on LinkedIn, and she asked me to send her my manuscript. I had just paid the fees to take two of my granddaughters to grandparent camp at Beaver Camp, but God arranged things so when Sabrina told me publishing would cost $3,000.00, I had a couple hundred dollars over that in my savings.

I forgot that in February I also began sponsoring a student with David’s Kidz, $90.00 every 3 months. Remember, at the end of October, I agreed to go on the mission trip to Tanzania in February 2023. I had continued to put money into savings, and they added up. The funds seemed to increase miraculously. I was able to pay the two payments for the trip by the end of December. Out of the blue, people would hand money to me to supply funds for the sundries of the trip.

God continued to supply faithfully. In April of 2023, I asked Sabrina to have another 80 books published. That cost $500.00, which just happened to be in my savings! I leave you with the Elijah Clip so you can listen yourself. I pray you experience the prosperity God wants you to have to bring His kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven. Amen!

Practicing His Presence

Interesting how the Lord connects things in our lives if we just take a minute to assess what’s happening each day. Call it coincidence or God incidents, I prefer to see God at work in my life rather than fate. I share instances I’ve encountered through my Godly musings the last ten days or so.

I awoke thinking of a rhyme from my childhood I couldn’t quite remember. The next morning, I went to a garage sale for the woman I cleaned for. Lo and behold, I found a tin with the verse on it:

“Monday’s child is fair of face,

Tuesday’s child is full of grace,

Wednesday’s child is full of woe,

Thursday’s child has far to go,

Friday’s child is loving and giving,

Saturday’s child works hard for a living,

But the child who is born on the Sabbath day

Is bonnie and blithe and good and gay.” https://dayology.com/2017/02/26/the-mondays-child-poem/

This got me thinking about what days my four children were born on and what day my siblings were born. I have not delved into those dates to find the days, but probably will another day to see if any of this poem is true.

Saturday after evening church service, I went looking for a packet of seasoning for the greens I picked [from our garden] that afternoon. The woman I currently help gave me a packet her daughter uses, but I read the recipe wrong, thinking I needed two pounds of prepared greens, but that meant two pounds of greens straight from the garden, which were then prepared. Walmart being the closest store, I started there, although Price Chopper had come to mind first. They had the right brand of packets, but not for greens. I managed to buy a small packet of bacon crumbles to add to the pot and came back to the produce section just in time to see Joe, the 94-year-old man I mentioned last week, with his daughter & granddaughter, also shopping after church.

I proceeded across the road to Target, and having to use the facilities, I found a young girl who didn’t know how to use the automatic soap or water faucet. I was able to guide her, and she looked much relieved.

Next, I stopped at Hannaford and cruised the aisles, not finding what I needed, but was able to share a few smiles. When I got back in my car, I surrendered to the Lord’s original prompt and went to Price Chopper, where I was able to encourage a woman in the produce section, then found a rack with the brand of seasonings I was looking for. I found one packet of the greens mix, obviously one that had fallen off the rack and been put on top. I realized Father provided for my needs. I had a good interaction with the young man at the checkout and was able to share how God put it there for me.

Remembering the Monday’s Child episode, I realized the prompts were God speaking to me, so the next morning’s episode trippily blessed me! I had a mental picture of us eating at Cracker Barrel, which we do fairly regularly, but we were seated in the far section of the dining area where we haven’t sat in some time. Yesterday, John decided we’d go to Cracker Barrel for brunch after looking at storage sheds. Lo and behold, the hostess sat us at a table on the far end. It was a blessing seeing things we hadn’t and meeting a new waitress.

I don’t think I’ve told you readers, but I am doing two devotionals at once. I have The Prophet’s Devotional by Jennifer LeClaire, which is a one-year devotional, and recently finished Kevin Zadai’s 60 Day Healing Devotional and began Beni Johnson’s The Joy of Intercession, A 40 Day Encounter. It’s a real God- instance when they frequently jibe.

Genisis 28:16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.

Jennifer used this scripture to point out that “God wants us to walk in an awakening that makes us aware of His presence not just when we are in a worship service or when we hear His voice or when we have a dramatic encounter.” (pg. 221, July 17) She mentions Brother Lawrence and the book The Practice of the Presence of God, how he learned to see God in the mundane tasks of everyday life. Her prayer:

“Father, in the name of Jesus, help me to crucify my flesh so I can be more sensitive to Your heart. I want to know when You walk into a room and when You leave. I want to be aware of what You are doing in and around me. Help me practice Your presence.”

This was Day 7 in Beni’s book, a section titled: “No Agenda Required”. She stresses coming to God without our own agenda, making room for an interaction with Him, agreeing with His will and His Word.

1 Corinthians 1:20-22 Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, putting his Yes within us. By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete. The Message

Added to these devotions was the sermon from Saturday evening, fighting our giants. God has provided just the right weapons, talents and skills for our battle. King Saul tried to put his own armor on David to fight Goliath, but it was not the weapon God had trained him to use. The slingshot he’d used in the fields was the demise of that giant.

My takeaway from these two devotionals and the sermon is: Don’t bring your own agenda when you want to spend time with God and feel His presence. Our Father in Heaven has a lot to say to us, His children. Let us open ourselves to practicing being in His presence, first reading His Word, then taking time to realize where He is in our daily walk. Adding on the sermon, God has brought us through things in our life that have given us the skills for the plans He has for our lives. What weapons do you have to fight your giants? According to 1 Corinthians, knowing what God has said “Yes” to and adding our “Amen” to it is the way to victory.

By the way, Beni Johnson has gone on to be with the Lord recently and I count it an honor and privilege to have the Lord choose this book for me to use at this time.

Honoring the Life of Beni Johnson

Jul 15, 2022
PRESS RELEASE

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Beni Johnson, beloved wife and Co-Senior Leader to Bill Johnson, passed away surrounded by family and friends after a prolonged battle with cancer. As Pastor Bill communicated that evening on his personal Instagram account, “She is healthy and free.”

In our prayers for Beni, our community felt called to fight the good fight, full of faith to the end. Beni powerfully modeled this way of prayer for us. Upon her death, we declare with all God’s Church that He is good, even as we grieve together.

Thank you for your prayers for Beni, and for continuing to pray for the Johnson family. We look forward to honoring and remembering her impact, and celebrating her life at a memorial service in the near future.
